As I prepare to go on a church mission trip overseas next month I find myself continually going over in my mind why exactly I am going on such a trip.  Today in my wrestling with such thoughts I found myself once again reading the Great Commission.

Matthew 28

“16Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Do you see it?  A little phrase tucked away in the middle of that passage, “but some doubted.”  Stop and consider all that these people have been through seeing Christ minister, teach, heal, confront, die and come to life.  Yet in the midst of all of that, some still doubted.  Can you imagine doubting what God was doing after all of that?

Seeing that phrase in that passage brought two feelings to my heart. One was sadness for the fact that some still doubted Jesus here.  The second was comfort in the fact that when I doubt I am in good company.

You and I face a test of faith each and every day of our lives.  Will we trust or will we doubt?  As I prepare to go on this trip and as I continue to be a traveler on the journey that God has laid out for me, I want to be a person of trust.
