Whatever Happened to Worship? December 27, 2006

Whatever Happened to Worship by A.W. Tozer is one of my all-time favorite books.  I thought I would share some of my favorite quotes from this book.

Worship is critical to our Christian lives and I hope these quotes encourage us to worship our Lord with our head and our hearts, in spirit and in truth.

“It is certainly true that hardly anything is missing from our churches these days–except the most important thing.  We are missing the genuine and sacred offering of ourselves and our worship to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ” (pg.9)

“I can safely say, on the authority of all that is revealed in the Word of God, that any man or woman on this earth who is bored and turned off by worship is not ready for heaven.” (pg. 13)

“Because we are not truly worshippers, we spend a lot of time in our churches just spinning our wheels, burning the gasoline, making a noise but not getting anywhere.” (pg. 17)

“We please Him most, not by frantically trying to make ourselves good, but by throwing ourselves into His arms with all our imperfections and believing that He understands everything–and loves us still.” (pg. 29)

“We cannot worship in the spirit alone, for the spirit wihtout truth is helpless.  We cannot worship in truth alone, for that would be theology without fire.” (pg. 46)

“Why should the church of Jesus Christ be a spiritual school where hardly anyone ever graduates from the first grade?” (pg. 94)

“If you cannot worship the Lord in the midst of your responsibilities on Monday, it is not very likely that you were worshiping on Sunday!” (pg. 122)

this is an old post, but I thought I would try. I am looking for the sermons that Tozer says are Ravenhills best, they are called, “God in the Silence” and “God in the Storm”. This is said in this book on the very last page. I have been looking online but I can’t seem to find them. If you know where I can find them it would be greatly appreciated.
