Hard to believe this year’s swim season is almost over.  Tomorrow is the final meet of the year.  Here is a picture of this year’s team after their last practice for this season.

The McKids, as they are known at the pool, have had a really good year in the pool.   Michaela swam in the 9-10 year old division this year.  She qualified for districts in the Individual Medley, breastroke, long breaststroke, backstroke, and long free.  She has decided to swim the IM and both breaststrokes tomorrow.  She has racked up a bunch of 1st, 2nd, and 3rds this year.  Also, her and her buddy Grace Bailey, the other 9-10 yr old girl on our team have been doing great in the relay races.   I nicknamed them the Blonde Bombers.  They have finished in the top 2 of every relay event this year, which is pretty good considering they are each swimming 2 legs while the other teams all have 4 girls racing.   A funny story from one of the meets this year:  Grace and Michaela were getting ready to swim the freestyle relay and one of the girls on the other teams looks at Grace and says, “what are you looking at?”  Grace says, “I don’t know.”  The other girl flippantly replies, “I know, you are looking at something  you can’t beat.”  That irriated the girls and I told them not to respond, but to just show that girl what they could do in the pool.  When the race was over the Blonde Bombers won first place by almost half a pool length. 🙂

Mackenzie has improved a lot this year in the 8 and under division.  She won 2 medals this year, one in the breaststroke and one in the long breaststroke.  Tomorrow she will get to swim in each of those events at districts.  She was thrilled to win some medals this year, but the exciting part is her times have come down a lot in the last year and she will still be able to swim in this age group next year.

McKenna has done great this year in the 8 and under division as well.  Other than Kylie’s one swim, at 5 years old she is the youngest swimmer on our team, and probably for the whole area.  She finished 4th in a couple races just missing out on a medal and qualifing for districts.  But she was able to win a medal in the butterfly and qualify for districts.  So she will be swimming in that race tomorrow.

McKylie swam in one race this year, the breastroke.  She did great in that race for a 4 yr old, but she decided that was her final event this year.   Even though she has not raced anymore, she has improved a lot just playing around in the pool.  She can do all 4 strokes and is looking forward to getting a little bigger and swimming with her big sisters.

Great memories from this year’s team and I am very proud of my girls and all the folks on the team!

You should be proud of them. They are very hard workers and work well as a team and independently. Great kids!
