I hope this finds all of you doing well and experiencing the Lord’s blessing!  Since we have not gotten together an actual Christmas letter for this year I thought I would give all of you an update as to what is going on in the Cox family this year.

We still reside in Willow Springs, Missouri where I am the pastor of Trinity Baptist Church.  I have been here now for 7 years and it has been an interesting journey of watching God at work.   I continue to keep an extremely busy schedule between things at church, things with our family, and things in the community.

For the last couple of years I have been doing some substitute teaching.   This past year I have mainly subbed in the middle school for some of the teachers that I have befriended.  Also, on my “day off” I have been working at a friends carpet store.  Interacting with people in that type of environment has been a real eye opener as a pastor and has taught me a lot of lessons that carry over to my pastoral ministry.

I continue to be the stat keeper for our high school football team which I have really enjoyed.  But now I have expanded on my stat keeping endeavors by also doing stats for the high school girls basketball team.  So a couple nights a week I can be found sitting on the bench of our team frantically writing down points, rebounds, turnovers, etc.    On top of all of that I also help coach Michaela’s 5th and 6th grade basketball team.

Rachel continues to work at our local McDonald’s as an assistant manager.   She also stays busy with our church and sports activities.  She just finished being co-director of our combined Children’s Christmas program with First Baptist Church in town.   The kids did a great job and everyone seemed to really enjoy their work this year.

Michaela, or Kayla, as she is known at school is doing great.  She has maintained straight A’s in her middle school days so far.  She really seems to enjoy math and has excelled at that as well as reading.  If she is not playing some type of sport she can normally be found with a book in her hand.   She is playing on a 5th and 6th grade basketball team and has been doing great.  She helped lead her team to their first 2 wins of the season this past Saturday and will be having many more games coming up after the Christmas break.  She is also active in the middle school drama club and has been acting in some of the local plays at the Star Theater.  Starting in 6th grade the kids at our school have to pick either band or choir. She selected band this year and has been having a good time learning to play the trumpet.    She has been busy at church lately as well as she had a main role in the Christmas program and she is preparing to sing a solo at the Christmas Eve service.

Kenzie is also having a great time at school.  She is doing well in all her subjects and really enjoys art.  She can usually be found drawing something in her spare time.  She is playing basketball on a 3rd and 4th grade team this year and it will be her first time getting to travel to other towns and play games.  She is really excited about this and has been getting better each practice.   In the last few months she has shown an increasing interest in the guitar so I have been showing her a few chords and helping her practice.   She has also been taking gymnastics at a local place here that has been open the last year or so.   Kenzie continues to love horses, she is all about anything and everything to do with horses.  And she had a pretty important role in our Children’s Christmas program as well.

Kenna just finished her big role as ZuZu in our town’s performance of “It’s a Wonderful Life.”  She loved every minute of it and hopes to be able to act in more plays.  She is also getting to play on the same 3rd and 4th grade basketball team that her sister Kenzie is playing on.  They needed one more play to even out the teams and since they could not find any additional 3rd and 4th graders they allowed Kenna to play for their team as a 2nd grader.  She is doing great and loves to challenge of playing with bigger girls.  Gymnastics is also a favorite activity of Kenna.  She goes once a week for a class and has quickly advanced to one of the higher groups.  Kenna is also a member of the CAT group at school which is a gifted and talented program that does special activities and really pushes the students with creative thinking and problem solving.

Last but definitely not least is our little Kylie.  Kylie is doing great in kindergarten.  She is really excelling at reading and math and her teacher tells us she loves to help out the other students.   She also has a tendency to be quite the chatter box with her best friend who is in the same class.  Kylie starred as a shepherd in our Children’s Christmas program and is looking forward to being able to perform in one of the plays at our local theater just like her big sisters.   She also goes to a gymnastics class once a week and loves to do all the activities.

So as you can see life at the Cox household is rarely dull and usually always full of different events and activities.  I am loving every minute of it and trying to take advantage of each and every moment as I know this time of life will zoom by very quickly!

Again, I hope the Lord is blessing you and look forward to hearing and seeing great things in 2011!   I leave you with part of a Psalm I have been reflecting upon often over the last couple of weeks. I would encourage you to read all of it and soak it in!

Psalm 105

1 Give praise to the LORD, proclaim his name;
make known among the nations what he has done.
2 Sing to him, sing praise to him;
tell of all his wonderful acts.
3 Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.
4 Look to the LORD and his strength;
seek his face always.

5 Remember the wonders he has done,
his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced,
6 you his servants, the descendants of Abraham,
his chosen ones, the children of Jacob.
7 He is the LORD our God;
his judgments are in all the earth.
