Today as I was reading and reflecting on the events of Good Friday and the death of Jesus I thought about a recent sermon that I watched and an illustration that was used.  It is a sermon from Pastor Mark Driscoll and he is retelling some things that he learned while on a trip to the Holy Land.   It truly is amazing to contemplated all that Jesus endured on our behalf, for our sin.  The Gospel truly is amazing.  Thank you Jesus!

Hard to believe that Kenzie is 9 years old.  Recently we had a skating birthday party for both Kenzie and Kylie.  Here are a few pics of the day.

Elephant Room April 1, 2011

Yesterday I had the unique opportunity to attend The Elephant Room.   This event brought together 7 influential pastors from around the country:  David Platt, Mark Driscoll, James Macdonald, Matt Chandler, Greg Laurie, Perry Noble, and Steven Furtick.   The day revolved around these guys having frank conversations about the gospel, ministry, and the local church.

My good friend Aaron Davis has provided a great summary of the day at his blog Renewed Mess:  A Day in the Elephant Room.   I would encourage you to check it out and see all that took place.

Overall, I was most encouraged by two parts of the day.  First of all, it was refreshing to see these men take the time out of their schedules to participate in this event to sharpen each other and to help sharpen all those who were able to watch.  They did not always agree with each other and at times took the opportunity to point out corrections for the other brothers in their view points.  Impressively, no one got defensive or upset about anything that took place.

Second, I was encouraged to be able to spend the entire day with two pastor friends that have both provided moments of sharpening for me.  It is always a good thing for pastors to be able to spend time together and share their lives and help each other a long the way.  I truly hope this is not the last of such events.  I look forward to seeing more of this type of interaction so that we all maybe sharper tools in the hand of our Lord.
